Reiki

John Hopkins Medicine describes Reiki as:
Reiki is a very specific form of energy healing, in which hands are placed just off the body or lightly touching the body, as in “laying on of hands.” Reiki can also be done “long-distance,” as a form of prayer. According to many versions of its origin, Dr Mikao Usui, a Japanese seeker of spiritual truths, brought the Reiki method of healing into human awareness in 1922 after a deep spiritual experience. He is said to have begun teaching others after a serious earthquake hit Japan and he felt urged to spread his knowledge.
In a Reiki session, the practitioner is seeking to transmit Universal Life Energy to the client. The intention is to create deep relaxation, to help speed healing, reduce pain, and decrease other symptoms you may be experiencing.

Shamanism

The Foundation for Shamanic Studies describes it best as:
"Over tens of thousands of years, our ancient ancestors all over the world discovered how to maximize human abilities of mind and spirit for healing and problem-solving. The remarkable system of methods they developed is today known as "shamanism," a term that comes from a Siberian tribal word for its practitioners: "shaman" (pronounced SHAH-mahn). Shamans are a type of medicine man or woman especially distinguished by the use of journeys to hidden worlds otherwise mainly known through myth, dream, and near-death experiences. Most commonly they do this by entering an altered state of consciousness using monotonous percussion sound.
What we know today about shamanism comes from the last living bearers of this ancient human knowledge, the shamans of dying tribal cultures scattered in remote parts of the world. Few of them are left today, due to the destruction of their peoples and cultures, and to deliberate attempts to eradicate the shamans and their knowledge, even though shamanism is not a religion, but a methodology.
Now, at the last moment, open-minded Westerners are beginning to discover for themselves that the shamanic methods can yield astonishing results in problem-solving and healing, for themselves and for others. As a result of their use of the methods, they are acquiring a new awareness of their spiritual unity with all beings, with the Planet, and with the Universe. They are also discovering that there is a dimension of reality beyond that ordinarily perceived."
“Shamanism is not a faith, but a wisdom tradition in which we learn purely from our own individual, collective and personal experience. It is not a religion and is dogma-free; indeed it supports any existing spiritual practice one already has. Many of us deeply desire a connection to our own ‘soulfulness’ and that of all other living beings in a free and natural way. This is the essence of Shamanism.”

I came across this article on the website www.telegraph.co.uk that moved me to share it and what many of us could gain from this beautifully captured experience. Below I have included a copy of the article...so please read on...I will wait right here....
A 370lb Golden Bengal Tiger bows its head and placed a paw up to the hand of a small girl. Photographer Dyrk Daniels says: "I noticed this little girl was leaning against the glass with both hands out stretched staring at the 'big kitties'. I could not believe my eyes when Taj approached the girl, bowed his head and then placed his huge right paw exactly in front of where the little girl's left hand was. It was incredible to watch. Taj let down his right paw, rubbed his cheek against the glass where the little girl's face was and moved off." Far from being scared, the little girl was so excited that she started clapping as she walked back towards her mother.

.....welcome back.....Nature will always honor those whom honor it. The stunning tiger, Taj, could feel the pure unconditional love and joy in the energy that beautiful little girl shone with. Taj recognized it and out of gratitude, honored her. As he showed by putting his forehead (3rd eye) to her forehead and his paw to the palm of her hand. Could you imagine if we all approached nature with the unconditional love and joy of our youth? So why not?? And how can you?? No I am not saying to run out to the woods and hug a bear, certainly not!! Even if it would be the coolest thing ever.....What I am saying is to honor Nature-Mother Earth, love her unconditionally, take care of her unconditionally and she will honor you. Just as that little girl loved that amazing tiger unconditionally. He honored her and she walked on clapping so happy and joyful from the experience. That pure happiness and joy can be yours too! Start small - hug a tree....don't laugh until you try it! If you see garbage on the street...pick it up...and so on. The small things add up and soon you will find yourself wanting a deeper connection with that for which you walk upon and for all it's inhabitants, That connection is "Soulfully Instinctual" , as it was perfectly demonstrated by that little girl. It is in all of us, we only need to remember it! So jog your memory! Jogging is healthy for body, mind and it keeps the Soul in condition. the unconditional love condition...now that is a condition I am more than happy to live with and for!
